HISTORY

The Festival de Wiltz was founded in 1953 and is thus not only the oldest but also the most traditional festival in Luxembourg. Exceptionally committed citizens from Wiltz organized and managed the festival as members of the “Amis du Festival” on a voluntary basis for many years, initially with a special focus on theatre performances. Over the years, the stage in the amphitheatre became a world-class attraction: no less than Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, José Carreras or the dance company of Maurice Béjart presented themselves in front of the Castle of Wiltz. Since 2017, the socio-cultural company COOPERATIONS has been managing the Festival de Wiltz and, in addition to perpetuating the cultural heritage, gives the open-air event a thoroughly popular touch with performances by Morcheeba, the Gipsy Kings, Mando Diao or Passenger.
